    - consumes a lot of time, consequently not allowing them to carry out some of the unsavory things that other teens do.
    - exposes them to a positive team environment in which they can work hard, be encouraged, and find themselves
-gives the oppertunity to attend other gatherings such as bake sales, charity events, and their own sporting events
    - creates an outlet for teens to express themselves in non violent and unharmful ways

It doesn’t necessarily, but here are some reasons why it could:

    - Keeps them busy
    - Gives them higher self-esteem
    - Gives them another person to be accountable to (their coach)
    - Requires that they be in good physical health (alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs are a detriment)
    - Gives them something to care about and goals to work toward

No, It Makes Them More Aggressive! Get Them Into Religion, I Think Jehovah’s Witnesses Are a Good Religion. My Sister Is One and Her Friends are Really Caring! they don’t Smoke or abuse alcohol and the religion gives the members a good responsibility in life + he/she will have genuine friends who will keep him/her out of trouble!

    YES
Time in sports is time off the streets
Sports builds self-confidence, teamwork, and optimism
Enthusiastic athletes will take care of themselves in order to perform better

    NO
Sports is not always enough to heal one’s emotional wounds
The teen may already be addicted to drugs
The team may form a gang that causes trouble or gets involved in trouble

Of course you will want to find trusted sources that argue for your point–try Google, NYT, or local newspapers. And you will need to define trouble and sports. For example, getting involved in drugs is different them killing someone, and many sports are not team-based.

I’m sorry to inform you that although this could keep a teen busy, it may not be enough. I’m sure there are gangs that may play sports in the day and do their dirty deeds at night. Also, if a teen is over-active, he may need to find another "high" after the game is over. Games don’t last forever, and some teens aren’t satisfied with the exercise. Games have also caused teens to rally and misbehave after losing a game. So, the main answer is NO. Sports do not necessarily keep teens out of trouble.

I would only add to Mandy’s list that exercise influences mood which opens up more physical activity as avenues to expression as well as changing mood and that has a double positive effect.
