How come so many moms dont get their teen daughters on a contrectptive when they find out their teen had sex?

when i was 13 my mom found out i had sex for the first time and knew their may be another chance, i still dont know how she found out but she did, she made me go to the doctors and get a pap and on the birth controll pill. that is one thing i can say i thank her for and would never of regreted. so many of my senior friends are having babys due to lack of protection or from using condoms. their leaving their mom, grandma, or someone at a daycare take care of their child while they continue education or live the life of a teen. kids shouldnt have to raise kids nor should someone raise someone elses kid is my theorie. im only 18 im still on the pill and responsibly take it everyday and i have no kids or no fear of a chance of a baby.

i applaud you in taking responsibility for yourself and for trying to help other people. your mom did an excellent job in raising you and she also did the right thing in getting you on birth control when she found out you were sexually active……when my daughter gets older i will definitely talk to her about these issues and get her on birth control when she needs it.

Many of them are in denial that their child even had sex and don’t want them to use a pill because they feel it would encourage them to have more sex.

I am now 25 with a 3 year old but I started having sex at 16. When my mom found out she flipped out. I asked for the pill but her response was no way. She thought it would give me freedom to have sex with many people. Which was totally not my plans. I just wanted to have sex with my bf and not get pregnant. We used condoms but it would of been nice to of had that extra protection there. Just to ease my mind. I know I f I ever have a daughter If she decides to have sex I will be taking her to buy condoms and birth control. Id rather her be safe than pregnant or with STD’s.

I understand what you’re saying and I honestly don’t know why parents don’t make sure their children are informed and protected when they find out they’re having sex. To simply tell them to stop is ridiculous.

OTOH, I don’t know why kids use that as an excuse for not using protection. Certain forms of birth control are by prescription only, but not all of them are. You can go to the drugstore and buy condoms or sponges without a prescription. You can also go to Planned Parenthood or any other clinic of that type and get the Pill. That’s what I did when I was a teenager. My mother would have died before she took me to get birth control, so instead, I used my babysitting money and took two buses and the subway to a clinic way on the other side of the city where I got an exam and a 6 month supply of birth control pills. I did that for probably three years!

Don’t pin it all on the parents. The kids drop the ball in the responsibility area probably just as often.

I would put my kids on it,, BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!! The side affects from birth control are anormous,, When you get older from having the hormones in you,, YOu have uteren problems not to mention other things..
BUT I would still reconmend BIrth control!!!!! WITH little hormones..

Plus WE need to start teaching the kids the truth,, NOT made up Stories about the birds and the bees,

I agree. But by putting their daughter on birth control or buying condoms for their son, some parents might view it as "giving permission" to have sex.

My mom was in denial. She felt like if she took me to the dr. and got my birthcontrol pills she was saying it was ok and she approved.
