How do I know if a HP laptop harddrive would work on other brands of laptop?
Posted: April 6th, 2010 | Author: admin | Filed under: Uncategorized | 3 Comments »My HP Pavilion laptop recently bit it. I would like to use the harddrive from it and, if possible, install it on a used laptop. But I want to make sure that it is compatible with a particular kind or brand of laptop.

HP laptops use generic PATA or SATA hard drives.
They are not proprietary.
Please add details to your question with the model #’s of both laptops & we will give you a definitive answer.

Don’t worry, the hard drives are compatible with all kind of brands.
Cheers!

Any laptop brand HDD will work with any other laptop brand. Just gotta make sure it’s the same type (SATA or IDE). The newer HDDs are SATA and the other ones are IDE (it has small pins on the back of it).
If you laptop is 1-2 years old, the HDD would probably be SATA. Just check to other laptop and see if the HDD is the same as yours.
